Bangladesh won by 33 runs in the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah’s partnership of 107-run fifth-wicket partnership to help Bangladesh reach 257 for 6. It was a proper exhibition of risk-free cricket. Both the batsmen hit only six fours and two sixes between them, they took calculated risks against the spinners through the middle overs, after having come together when the team was in a sort of trouble.

Mushfiqur Rahim played better innings of the two, scoring 84 off 87, while Mahmudullah made 54 off 76. Earlier, the Bangladesh captain, Tamim Iqbal  led the way with a half-century off his own.

Sri Lanka’s chase of 258 was a struggling effort, throwing away the good starts then gaining spark when the match was almost over. After a good start, a superb second spell [6 overs 19 runs 3 wickets 2 maidens] from Mehidy Hasan halted the chase before Wanindu Hasaranga revived hopes with a quickfire fifty, but the Island nation fell 33 short of the target as Bangladesh tasted their first blood in the three-match series.
