BCCI , in its SGM, had already decided to ask for an extension from ICC to decide the fate on the possibility of hosting the 2021 World T20 cup.The ICC has informed that the final decision on the venue for the upcoming T20WC will be taken later this month. It is to be noted that the extension asked by the BCCI seems paid.In the meantime, it has also advised the management to look for hosting options in the UAE with the possibility of including another venue in the Middle East.

ICC’s decision comes after two days post the BCCI concluded its Special General Meeting and requested ICC for a month’s time to look for possibilities to host the mega event tournament in India itself.

BCCI gets more time but ICC looking for venues in UAE

The doubts are looming with India hosting the 2021 T20WC comes up from the current Covid19 situation in the country and the possibility of a third wave in the near future. Amidst the successful organisation of England’s tour of India earlier this year was a setback in BCCI’s side, its decision to move the IPL out of India, after multiple positive cases break inside the bio-bubble, weakens its case significantly. The conduction of a 16 team WC will require multiple bio-bubbles to operate, similar to how it was during 2021 IPL in India before it had to be suspended.

If the T20 WC moves to UAE, it will mark a very tight season for the country which is already lining up to host the remainder of IPL and PSL.
