Indian hockey team made history by entering into semifinals of Olympics after 1972 after beating Great Britain in the quarter-finals today.

It’s the quarter-final of the Olympics hockey in the Men’s Field Hockey competition in Tokyo 2020. The Germans beat Argentina by a convincing 3-1 margin while Australia managed to make it to the semis via shootout after the game being tied 2-2 with the Netherlands. Germany will be playing Australia in the first semifinal on Tuesday.

Manpreet and team take on Great Britain in the last of Sunday’s quarterfinals hoping to create history by becoming the first team to make it to enter semifinal of an Olympics game since Munich 1972. Although the Indians won gold in the 1980 Olympics Moscow game, but this event did not involve a semifinal game.

Today India played their QF match against Greta Britain and won the match by 3-1 margin comfortably. India scored 3 goals through Dilpreet Singh (7th minute), Gurjant Singh (16th minute), and Hardik Singh (57th minute) to seal the win against GB. Britain’s only goal came in the 45th minute.

Now, India has won 5 out of 6 games. Before this game, India had played Britain 8 times in the Olympics and winning 4 and losing 4 matches. Anyhow, India holds an edge on the basis of goals scored in the Olympics.

India made history after beating Great Britain and through to the semifinals and will be playing against Belgium on August 3.

This is the first time India will be playing a semifinal game in Olympics. The other semifinal event is played between Australia and Germany on August 3rd.

Punjab announced ₹2.25 crore each for Punjab’s hockey players on winning gold medal

On July 30th, Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi announced that hockey players from Punjab participating in the Tokyo Olympics would now get ₹2.25 Cr individually on winning a gold medal for the team. Earlier, an amount of ₹2.25 crore was given to the whole team for winning a gold medal.
