IPL 2021 RCB vs KKR, Match 31: It’s the second match of the UAE leg of IPL played between RCB and KKR. Before the match, RCB was in third place whereas KKR was in the seventh position. Match started amidst the fuss that the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Virat Kohli has decided to step down from the captaincy after the 2021 IPL season.
Virat Kohli also said that he will be part of RCB till the last match he plays in RCB. That is a relief for the RCB fans as they can witness their Icon player playing for their franchise. Coming into the match, RCB won the toss and chose to bat first.
Devdutt Padikkal and Kohli opened the innings and the captain started the innings with his trademark cover drive. But the happiness of the RCB fans doesn’t last long as Prasidh Krishna took Kohli’s wicket with an incoming delivery. After the wicket of Kohli, Padikkal and Srikar Bharat took RCB to 41 for 1 at the end of the powerplay.
RCB’s downfall started after the first ball of the powerplay as they lost the wicket of Padikkal for 22 runs. Then they lost the wickets of Srikar Bharat and De Villiers in quick time. De Villiers was bowled by an excellent yorker from Russel. Once the wicket of De Villiers fell, RCB was clueless and lost wickets very quickly and their batting order fell like a pack of cards.
Varun Chakravarthy was on a hat-trick when he took the wickets of Sachin Baby and Hasranga in consecutive deliveries. However, he was denied the hat-trick when the LBW shout was dismissed by the Umpire on the hat-trick delivery.
The Bengaluru-based franchise has tumbled for 92 all out, courtesy to Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russel supported by Lockie Ferguson. Varun took 3 for 13, Russel took 3 for 9 as Ferguson took 2 wickets and Prasidh Krishna took 1 wicket.
KKR’s Super fast Chase
KKR started their chase in a scintillating fashion scoring some quick runs. The openers held the momentum with their fierce batting thrashing all the bowlers of RCB and scored 56 runs at the end of the powerplay without losing a wicket.
The Bowling of RCB looked clueless as like their batting in a pitch that seemed to be a batting paradise. Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer proved the worth of the pitch by playing extraordinary shots throughout their innings. They thrashed almost every bowler of the RCB team without respecting their both pace and spin bowlers.
The debutant Venkatesh Iyer played a fearless knock and looked in tremendous touch. Shubman Gill also responded to his critics in style playing some good cricketing shots all over the ground. At one stage, KKR looked to finish the game inside 10 overs as they were cruising to the target and scored 82 runs in 9 overs.
At the end of the match, KKR won the match by 9 wickets in 10 overs to give RCB a demoralizing defeat.
