The remainder of the IPL 2021 cricket season to be hosted between September to October in UAE. The decision was taken by BCCI on Saturday after a virtual meeting. The BCCI is seeking an extension from the ICC to take a call on hosting the men’s T20 World Cup, originally scheduled between October – November in India.
BCCI has decided the start date of the IPL as September 20. Also, BCCI had conducted the entire tournament played in the stadiums of Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai n 2020. These venues are most likely to be the hosts of IPL Cricket 2021 again after BCCI finalizes the dates for the IPL 2021, which remains its ultimate challenge now and it has announced the September-October window.
The biggest setback while hosting the tournament will be the non-availability of foreign players, and the BCCI has said that the franchises are allowed to take replacements(both from Overseas and India), to restructure their line-ups. England Cricket Board has already stated that it won’t allow its players for the unfinished IPL while Cricket Australia is yet to make a statement. Meeting with the IPL franchises will happen at some stage.
The board is also expecting some time till the first week of July from the ICC for a decision on staging the T20 World Cup in India. The ICC has scheduled its meeting on June 1 to take a decision on the matter, but the world body may have to reject the decision of moving the October 18-November 15 world cup tournament out of India on view of the BCCI’s request. The BCCI is exploring all possibilities to host it in India itself.
