India was 1-0 up before the start of the 3rd Test against England but the hosts turned the table in the third test match of the series by beating India by an innings and 76 runs. England Captain Joe Root led from the front with his spectacular batting performance along with the good support aided by their fast bowlers.
The Visitor’s first innings batting collapse gave England the advantage with the help of the excellent fast bowling performance from their fast bowlers Jimmy Anderson, Robinson, and Craig Overton. Following the first innings batting collapse and the Indians bowlers’ inability to take the wickets of the hosts increased the pressure on the struggling batting lineup in the second innings.
As a result of the innings defeat, the Indian team’s management is under the pressure to select a team that shows some improved lower-order batting performance which failed badly in the 3rd Test nad also the bowling department which picks wickets at regular intervals to keep the opposition under control.
With Shardul Thakur’s fitness getting better, India might look to include him by replacing Ishant Sharma who looked off-color in the 3rd Test. Apart from Thakur, Ravichandran Ashwin is another player who is waiting to get a place in the team. Ashwin recently played in England county to get match practice in the English conditions.
Even after his participation in the county matches, Ashwin was overlooked and didn’t get any chance in team eleven. With Kennington Oval expected to support spinners based on the previous results, Ashwin will be the top contender to replace Ishant Sharma and also to strengthen the struggling lower-middle order batting.
If Ashwin is selected to play, it’ll be a great advantage for the Indian team with Ravindra Jadeja in the team as another spinner amidst the spin-favoring pitch conditions, it also strengthens the batting lineup in the lower order. It all depends on the team management, coach, and Indian Captain Virat Kohli to decide on the decision to field the best possible lineup.
Prasidh Krishna is also included in the squad ahead of the 4th test. With his inclusion, It’ll be an interesting team selection for team India.
