Dasun Shanaka the Sri Lankan captain has won the toss and opted to bowl first and Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan was the high scorer for the Indian team with a 42-ball 40 as India posted a below par 132 for 5 against Sri Lanka in the 2nd T20I in Colombo on Wednesday. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the debutant scored 21 off 18 balls he faced while Devdutt Padikkal contributed with a 23-ball 29 who is another debutant.
The Lankan spinners bowled very well in the middle overs and did most of the damage to India’s middle-order batting. Akila Dananjaya returned with the best bowling figures of 2/29 for Sri Lanka while Wanindu Hasaranga picked a lone wicket. India handed debut caps to Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chetan Sakariya and Nitish Rana. The SL team has made two changes to their side.
At the end of the first innings, India posted a below-par score of 132-5 at the end of the 20 Overs. Sri Lanka started the chase by losing Avishka Fernando in the third over of the match for an Excellent catch taken by R Chahar in the Deep fine-leg boundary.
Apart from Minod Bhanuka and Dhananjaya De Silva all the other SL batsmen were not impressive as they are teased by Indian bowlers and the Indian spinners made them dance for their bowling with their variations. Minod Bhanuka, in the beginning, scored 36 runs off 31 deliveries and Dhanajaya De Silva the other batsmen who were in good touch for the SL team has scored 40 runs off 34 deliveries and he made sure that the match is won with his presence.
Finally, Indian has been beaten by Sri Lanka in the nail-biting last over en-counter. Indian kept Sri Lanka under control until Bhuvanesh Kumar bowled a waist-high Full toss which went for a maximum which proved to be a match-changing moment for both SL and India.
Earlier, with almost 8 members of the Indian squad were unavailable for this game and after having been placed in isolation as K Pandya’s first-line contacts, India is a little short of batting depth. Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and both Pandya brothers are out. This means that India may have the likes of B Kumar – who is a bowler who can bat good – as high as No. 6 in their line-up. India’s batting will be on show first, with Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka having chosen to bowl first at the toss.
