Tokyo Olympics Day13 :
India men’s hockey team made history by beating Germany by 5-4 to win the bronze medal after 41 years. India hockey team last won a medal (Gold) in Moscow in 1980 and since then, India has never won a medal after that until August 5th, 2021.
German playerTimur Oruz scored the first goal of the match within two minutes and puts India under pressure. Germans troubled the Indian defense in most of the first quarter but they couldn’t get past the Indian defense to extend their lead.
India’sSimranjeet Singh scored an excellenttomahawk shot and leveled the scores. Just when the Indian team looked like they are relieved of the pressure, defense errors led Germany to score two consecutive goals to put India under immense power with a scoreline of 1-3.

When it seemed that the Indian team might lose the grip of the match, 2 penalty corners took the India team to a comfortable position from a worrying situation asHardik Singh scored the second goal on the rebound from the first one, while Harmanpreet Singh struck the third goal with a superb drag-flick onto the back of the nets to level scores at 3-3 during the halftime.
India made a brilliant comeback twice in the match to level the scores and then had to pull their socks to take the lead. Graham Reid’s Indian team showed great fightback in the last minutes of the match to create history.
The Third-quarter of the match proved to be a good one for the Indian team as Rupinder Pal Singh scored a goal from the penalty corner. Later,Simranjeet Singh scored another goal and extended the Indian team’s lead.
Lukas Windfeder pulled one more goal for the German team in the final quarter from a penalty corner, but it was not enough for the German side to push the game to the shootouts. Germany got a penalty corner in the last few seconds of the match, but the India goalkeeper PR Sreejesh made a fantastic effort to save the goal. The Indian hockey team led by Manpreet Singh created history in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 by winning the bronze medal.
