Tokyo Olympics Day 14: India Women’s team go down fighting against Great Britain team losing the Bronze medal match by 3-4. Both the Indian Men and Women’s hockey teams made history by entering into the semifinal of the Olympics a few days back. For the men, they are into the semis after 41 years and for the Women’s team, they are in the semifinal for the first time ever.
Both the teams were making history and making their nation proud. They were in a position of bringing their nation much more important medals and for all their efforts and fightback and skills they’ve shown on the field, it’s nevertheless they are winning the medals are not.
They made our nation proud for the fightback, for the resilience, and the inspiration they gave to the millions of people back in the country. The whole nation will be proud of their achievement and what they have achieved so far.
Earlier, India men’s hockey team lost to Belgium in the semifinal, and India Women’s team lost to the Netherlands in their semifinal match. India men’s team played for the Bronze medal against Germany and won the bronze medal to end their medal drought.
Now, all the eyes were on the history-making Indian Women’s team as they were playing against Great Britain for 3rd place and the Bronze medal. we all know that the Indian women had already made history and surpassed all of our expectations by entering the semifinals of the Olympics hockey games for the first time.
Coming into the match, Britain started the match on the front foot as they passed the ball around Indian defense. At the end of the first quarter, the scores were 0-0 but India was under pressure for the whole quarter as the Great Britain team penetrated into the Indian half 6 times but India did only once to enter into Britain’s area.
In the Second Quarter, Ellie Rayer scored the first goal for Britain. Great Britain got their lead through Ellie Rayer! But the last touch was from India’s Dep Grace Ekka. That unfortunate event for India leads to Great Britain’s advantage. Briain’s Sarah Robertson scored another goal to put the Indian defense under immense pressure.
Indian player Gurjit Kaur gets one from the penalty and scores for the Indian team. Scores at this point were Britain 2-1 India.
Gurjit Kaur scored back-to-back goals to nullify Great Britain’s lead and advantage and they stopped a cruising Britain and put them in check. The second quarter has been a productive one for the Indian team as Vandana Katariya scored the 3rd goal for the Indian team and gave India the lead of 3-2.
This game had no goals in the first quarter but 5 goals so far in the second quarter and heading to the third quarter with India leading from nowhere at 3-2. Britain started the second half in the same way as they started this match on the front foot by putting the Indian defense under pressure. Hollie Pearne-Webb scored the much-needed very important goal for the Britain team. 3rd Quarter ended at 3-3.
India lost fighting hard to Great Britain
Grace Balsdon handed over the lead for Great Britain with only a few minutes left in the game. Britain used their experience to breach into the Indian defense and got their lead but the Indian women’s played one hell of a match and this team deserves all kinds of appreciation and applauds. India Women’s team lost to Great Britain by 3-4 but won hearts for their performance.
