IND vs ENG 4th Test Day 2 Summary
England started the second day of the 4th Test from 53 for 3, Overton was dismissed in the second over of the day bowled by Umesh Yadav, and caught by the Indian captain Virat Kohli. Craig Overton was dismissed by a beautiful outswing delivery from Umesh.
Umesh Yadav picked Dawid Malan in his next over to limit England to 62 for 5. With England trailing by 129 runs with only 5 wickets in hand, India looked to be in the driver seat. But then comes the biggest problem for India in recent years, that is none other than dismissing the lower order of any Team, any format of Cricket, and in any part of the world.
India has this knack of letting the lower order loose and makes them score by giving away freebies in form of sliding down the leg side and extras. The same happened in this innings as well. But one has to admit that Ollie Pope played a gem of an innings irrespective of the Indian bowlers’ poor execution of strategy. He played a superb knock of scoring some important runs for the team with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Pope stitched together some useful partnerships with Bairstow, Moeen Ali, and Chris Woakes to stretch the lead of England to more than 50 runs. Though the Indian bowlers took the wickets of Bairstow, Moeen, and Robinson, Pope held onto one end and irritated the Indian bowlers to score 81 runs before being dismissed by Shardul Thakur, the partnership breaker with a golden arm.
Bairstow was dismissed by Siraj LBW for 37 runs, he was dismissed one more time in the thirties this series. Moeen and Robinson were sent back to the pavilion by Ravindra Jadeja for 35 and 5 runs.
Chris Woakes show
This Test match has already witnessed the brilliant bowling skills displayed by Chris Woakes. But he is not only the bowler he swings the balls in both ways to trouble the Indian batting. He also troubled the Indian bowlers this time by playing a handy quick knock of 50 runs off 60 deliveries that included 11 boundaries to his name. This innings had taken England’slead to 99 runs.
Stumps, Day 2
The Visitors started their second innings with 99 runs behind the hosts. But both the Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma played some decent cricket with some sensible defensive strokes with some calculated risks to take India to a total of 43 for no loss at the stumps of Day 2 of the 4 Test match between India vs England 2021 Test series. Rohit was batting on 20 and KL Rahul was batting exceptionally well adding 22 runs to his name.
